Race fueling strategy for my first professional victory at Challenge Walchsee 2025
We are already in the middle of the triathlon competition season and so last weekend at the Challenge Walchsee-Kaiserwinkl I was able to fall back on some routines from previous races. These include the following basics for me:
- Pre-start 1x Energy Gel
- On the bike with Basic Form Powder (I personally try to consume ~80g KH/hour here)
- Running with energy gels (for me 3-4 gels, usually Basic Form or lemon), which I fill into the practical dispenser in advance so that they are easily available during the race
This nutrition strategy has already proved its worth for me in previous races.
What is new for me is the targeted intake of caffeine during training and competition to support my performance. After extensive testing over the past few weeks of training, it was time for my first race test on Sunday. I replaced my pre-start gel with a gel containing caffeine (lemon + caffeine) and also consumed another caffeine gel on the bike. My first race experience was thoroughly positive and from now on it will be another building block in my nutrition strategy, from which I will hopefully also benefit greatly at the next long distance.
I am glad that I can rely on the very good tolerance of Squeezy products even in challenging, hot conditions and that I was able to compete in a great race at Walchsee with plenty of energy!
