Podcast: The history of sports nutrition - fueling and hydration in endurance sports

30 years of Sports Nutrition - A journey through time.

In the middle of the last century, the range of sports nutrition for endurance athletes was still very limited, as there were neither energy bars nor gels in any form.

Of course, many athletes had a special diet in mind early on. However, this had little to do with today's scientific knowledge. The winner of the 1904 Tour de France, for example, made sure he ate enough hot chocolate, tea, champagne and rice pudding.
It was only after the fitness wave that emerged in the USA in the 1960s and 1970s that science became increasingly concerned with the topic of sports nutrition. In the course of this, SQUEEZY was the first energy gel ever to come to Europe and thus had a lasting impact on the sports nutrition market.
In the Mission Triathlon Podcast, Roger Milenk and Lotta & Schorsch take a closer look at how this came about and what has happened in the field of training and competition nutrition since then.
