The Squeezy goes Green - Project - the whole story ...

Squeezy goes Green - Kick-off Post

About a year and a half ago, we set to work rethinking the Squeezy brand. Products, design, packaging, logistics, team, concept - everything. A lot has already happened behind the scenes, a lot is in the pipeline and much, much more still needs to be planned and implemented. So this is about much more than just a subtle brand relaunch with a fine brush - nothing less than the realignment of the Squeezy brand is the goal. And we will involve our customers in this process...

You can see things are happening, and yet we're still at the beginning of a process that has encountered problems we didn't anticipate in the midst of a long pandemic. To wrap it all up in a Facebook post is impossible. So we decided to tell the story the right way. Here and now. Take some time and follow us into the 6th and probably most important generation Squeezy.

Design, colors and logo

Pedro is back.

For the logo, we use a modern font that clearly differs from the previous one and features an eye-catching Q-tilde. This is not part of the typo, but mounted afterwards and makes the lettering unique. Not everyone has to like it, but we do.

Packaging and sustainability

With Pure Amino it was easier. Away from cardboard and the 20 sachets made of composite material with 5 pellets each. The new solution is a bag made of partially recycled cellulose with a separable hygienic inner part made of K-PET, based on organic sugar cane.

The market launch of the new Energy Bars is expected to take place at the beginning of Q3/2022, and if all the tests currently underway can be successfully completed, they will come in compostable organic film. A milestone in our quest for more sustainability, we think.

While we are already very close to the current optimum for the bars, there is still a lot of potential to do better with the other products. Hopefully, in 2022, the calming of the supply market and the transport chains will give us more leeway to turn current interim solutions into final solutions.

Production, logistics and shipping

Sustainability is a holistic issue. It starts much earlier than at the product packaging stage and, above all, does not end at the point where the product leaves our premises. Suppliers play a major role here. We develop and manufacture our products exclusively in Germany. In this respect, we have a pretty good basis for traceability. So it was and is up to us to check where and how ingredients are produced - including how they find their way to our bottler. This research has already revealed some potential for improvement, which we have been able to influence directly. Unnecessary protective packaging is no longer used, deliveries are consolidated, and shipping now takes place in reused cardboard boxes.

The route from our warehouse to the dealer or end customer is also an issue, of course. For business customers, we have generally been using a considerable proportion of reused fillers made from various materials for some time now, which would otherwise have ended up directly in waste incineration. Here, too, we use reusable cardboard packaging where available. We supply our end customers from the warehouse of the Wahrendorff Clinic in nearby Sehnde. The Wahrendorff Clinic is a specialized psychiatric and psychotherapeutic hospital and has been helping us ship goods for a long time. More about that later. The fillers needed here are almost exclusively recycled materials from cellulose (paper and cardboard).

Squeezy goes Green - the community project

We have mammoth tasks ahead of us, some things have been done, many things still need to be solved. Tackling such an ambitious transition in the midst of a pandemic, in which major investments meet with an almost complete loss of revenue from sporting events, is a risky undertaking. Nevertheless, we have decided to go for it and even want to go one step further. With the start of the project today, we want to involve you as our customers in the planning and development. This starts with finding new products and tastes, but also includes an exchange about packaging forms and sustainability issues. As hopefully can be seen from this post, we are opening up with internal information and want to continue to act with full transparency in the future.

In order for this process to be channeled and processable in quantity for us, we want to start two surveys per month from now on, which will take place on our website and be announced here, as well as on Facebook and Instagram. Each survey will run for 10 days. We will fully disclose the survey results and communicate with you via social media in the time leading up to the next survey. Since we are not a rigid global company, we are able to make quick decisions and change things when they make sense. So results will not be long in coming. Starting with the second project survey (registration on squeezy.de required) on 12.01.2022 we will raffle valuable prizes among all participants.

The kickoff survey (no registration required) is now available on the project page. All future surveys can also be found there. However, there will soon be another page listing only the surveys and results. Furthermore, we are preparing a special page that lists the actions described here as Completed, In Progress and Planned. With your help, we will surely be able to add - or change - new items to this list very soon. We are very excited.

That should be the kick-off at this point and for today. Please participate in the first survey. In the following days we will continue with first reactions and further information from us.
